Combat Acne with Your MP3 Player?
I found this story to be an interesting use of technology to prevent/treat acne. For about $184 U.S. dollars, you can buy a 128MB MP3 player that releases “releases positively and negatively charged ions, which supposedly neutralize breakouts. Here are the instructions: Touch the device to the offending area as you listen to tunes, flip the switch to Minus, and hold for five to 10 minutes. Allegedly, the negative ions open pores and replenish moisture. Then, flip it to Positive and hold to reduce oil and close your pores back up. It just might zap all your zits faster than you can say “placebo effect!”.

Stretch marks:
It’s a fact of life; many women will end up with stretch marks. This happens to men as well, and both sexes may want to know what they can do about these red marks that have popped up on various parts of their bodies. You can't really get rid of them, but there are some things you can do to prevent them.
Most Common Reason:
The most common reason these happen is pregnancy. In many cases, there is nothing you can do about stretch marks once they form. You can however, try to keep your skin moisturized. This will help keep your skin more elastic. This may not prevent the marks, but it may lessen the amount you get. Stretch marks also occur with sudden weight gain not related to pregnancy. When you think about stretch marks, you may not realize they can occur anywhere. When a person suddenly has gained weight, the skin cannot grow to accommodate the new size fast enough, and these marks can occur anywhere on the body.
Consult with Your Doctor:
Ask your doctor about stretch marks. In many cases, they will tell you there is nothing you can do about these red and pink marks, and you just have to live with them. Most start out bright pink or red, but will fade to a less noticeable color over time. If you are still wondering about stretch marks and various remedies on the market, it may be up to you if you would like to spend you money finding out which will work and which will not. Your doctor is your best source for information, so talk over any remedy you would like to try with him or her first. If you do a search about stretch marks, take each remedy with a grain of salt. You may find many do not totally eliminate the stretch marks, but many may help them fade. This is not a perfect solution, but it may help you feel better about your body and about stretch marks.
Another thing to consider about stretch marks is where they have appeared on your body. Upper arm and stomach stretch marks may be the most worrisome. If they have appeared in a place that may never see sunlight, you may not even want to bother with them. When it comes to worrying about stretch marks and how your body looks, remember that they most likely do not bother your spouse. Often, they are a reminder that you gave birth to a precious child, and your husband may see that as a beautiful reminder of that event.
No one is more critical of your body than you. If you are worried about stretch marks, talk to you spouse about them. You may find they aren’t worried in the least and that they love you just the way you are. If you decide you just can’t live with them, go ahead and give a lotion or cream a try, just remember to talk to your doctor first, and don’t expect them to completely disappear.
Although there are many people who want to know about stretch marks and how to treat them, unfortunately there is very little information available. There are thousands of products out there that claim that they can treat stretch marks, but in fact, unless you really want to spend all of the money to try all of these creams, unctions, and ointments, hoping against hope for a cure, you are really all out of luck. There have yet to be any comprehensive studies about stretch marks, and so there is not all that much know about how to cure this unattractive and inconvenient condition. Unless you want to spend all of the money required for laser treatment of stretch marks, you are really probably going to be forced to live with them on your body for the rest of your life, whether you like it or not.
This is not the grimmest of fates. Although there are many people who worry about stretch marks, the fact is that they are really in most cases not all that noticeable. They occur, generally, on areas of the torso, and are faint, kind of wavy lines that are hard to see, except from closeup. They will rarely, if ever, show up on the face, or parts of the body that are subject to frequent display, so unless you spend your days at the beech, there is no reason to worry about stretch marks at all.
Honestly, I did not even know about stretch marks until we had our first child. Childbirth is a frequent cause of stretch marks among women, although it is surely not the only one. Certain stresses to the skin, such as weight gain, child birth, the onset of puberty, or other stresses, can overcome the ability that the skin has to stretch under pressure, causing the scar tissue that is known as stretch marks. There is not much you can do about stretch marks – they will fade with time if you lose weight, or have given birth, or whatever, but will never really go all the way away. Nonetheless, it has been 6 years since we had our kid, and I will tell you that, despite the fact that I have never really cared enough about stretch marks to buy any of those creams, they have faded almost all of the way away on my wife. Unless you are looking, you can't tell they are there.

Oily Skin:
Introduction:
People who have oily skin may be fed up of their greasy, shiny and wearisome appearance but the flip side of this skin is that it ages at a slower rate than other skin types. There is no lasting cure for oily skin and you have to take proper care to maintain your looks. The coarse pores of the oily skin result in the formation of pimples, blemishes and blackheads. People with combination skin also contain oily parts, especially on forehead, nose and chin.
The problem of the oily skin usually begins after puberty and persists long. Some even face the problem for lifetime. Heredity too plays a key role and you might get oily skin because of your ancestors. Similarly, oil production is energized by hormone production. Hence, anything that stimulates hormones to fluctuate can cause skin to become oily. Women generally notice hormonal fluctuation ether during pregnancy or at the start of each menstrual cycle. And so do women taking certain types of birth control pills.
Oily skin is the result of excessive production of sebum. Too much sebum produces surface oiliness, clogs pores, provides nourishment to bacteria that live upon the skin and contributes to acne flare-ups. Stress can also increase secretion of oil glands. And sometimes application of wrong cosmetics can aggravate an otherwise mild case of oily skin.
There’s a common misconception that you can’t wear make-up while using oil control products. But this is not true. You can use make-ups labeled oil-free or “non-comedogenic”.
How to Get Rid of Oily Skin:
Don’t smoke because it promotes enlargement of the pores and impairs the overall health of the skin.
To have a neutralizing effect, rub oily skin areas with apple cider vinegar.
Keep brushing and massaging the whole body regularly to stimulate circulation and rejuvenate the skin. This is one of the best cure for oily skin.
Tips for Oily Skin:
- Select suitable cleansers, cosmetic and facial care products. Avoid heavy cleansing creams.
- Applying clay on the skin can produce effective result. Those ho have sensitive skin can use white clays and sometimes even rose-colored clays.
- If your oily skin is scaly then exfoliate your skin by deep-cleaning followed by a light coating of moisturizer.
- Use plenty of hot water and soap to rinse your oily skin and to prevent the pores from being clogged.
- Don’t use skincare products that dehydrate your skin and cause its upper layers to shrink.
- Always prefer oil-free moisturizers to maintain a shine-free complexion.
- Ensure to apply antiseptic cream at regular intervals followed by application of a suitable mask once or twice a week.
- Take adequate rest because the cellular repair activity of the skin is at its optimum during this resting phase. This is one of the effective tips for oily skin.
- Do regular exercise as it also boosts circulation and encourages blood flow.
Natural Skin care:
- Take a perfumed liquid made of essential oils and alcohol and mix it thoroughly with ½ teaspoon of lime juice and ½ teaspoon of cucumber juice. Apply this mixture on your face 30 minutes before taking bath. The perfumed liquid containing essential oils and alcohol refines the pores and takes out overabundant oil and hampers acne formation.
- In oily skin, the forehead, chin as well as nose becomes oilier than other portions and whenever a makeup is applied, patches forms and become prominent in these three parts. Therefore to avoid this situation, it’s advisable to apply one teaspoon of cucumber juice on these three parts prior to application of makeup.
- Take two teaspoons of lime juice and two teaspoons of witch-hazel. Mix both the ingredients and apply on your face before putting on your makeup and dry well. This prevents formation of patches after makeup. This is one of the effective skin care treatment.
- Astringent containing acetone is effective in removing excessive oiliness from the oily skin. Acetone is known for dissolving oil.
- Consume plenty of fresh vegetables and fruits rich in proteins and avoid sugar, salt and fluids.
Herbal Remedies for Oily Skin:
- Aloe Vera is widely used in dealing several types of skin problems. Regularly use Aloe Vera gel on your skin for effective result.
- Moistening your skin with water containing lavender a couple of times in a day can produce good result for oily skin.
- Apply witch hazel on the skin to absorb excess oil. This is one of the useful home remedies for oily skin.
- Take 3 tablespoons of dried lemongrass, 4 tablespoons of dried rosebuds and 2 tablespoons of dried licorice root, and boil all the three ingredients in a pot. Take steam of these herbs on your face to get rid of oiliness of your skin. Later, you can also use this herbal water as a lotion to tone up your face by applying it with cotton.

Match Your Skin Types:
It is important that you understand how you can match your skin type with the right type of moisturizer because there is no one size fits all solution when it comes to properly moisturizing. There isn’t a single product that is going to work wonders for everyone – You have to find the right product based on the unique and individual needs of your own skin. With a properly formed skincare routine, there is no reason why you cannot achieve soft, smooth and oil free skin.
Soft and supple skin is going to depend on the use of a good moisturizer in order to keep it feeling nice and smooth. You need to determine what your skin type is, and how your skin responds to different types of skin care product in order to choose the most appropriate skin care products for your own unique needs. Whether your skin is old or young, oily or dry, sensitive or a nice combination between these qualities, there is a product that will work better than the others to deliver the results you seek.
- Dry Skin:
Skin is capable of coming dry without giving us any warning as a result of the constant exposure to the many elements such as sun and wind or to chemicals like chlorine. Skin that is not producing the right level of natural oils is also capable of becoming dry quite easily. It is best for you to moisturize skin that is dry heavily using an oil based type of moisturizer. When your skin returns to the normal conditions, then you can decrease your frequency of moisturizing the skin as necessary.
- Oily Skin:
Even oily skin is capable of being soft, clean, sooth and beautiful if you implement the right type of skin care routine. Caring for your oily skin can be frustrating, but with the right combination of exfoliating, cleansing, moisturizing and toning you can really make a difference. If you have skin that is excessively oily, then you should choose an oil-free and gentle moisturizer for the best results. You may also want to choose a water based moisturizer in order to avoid adding more oil to your skin.
- Combination Skin:
Combination skin is capable of being normal, oily or dry all at the same time, or one or the other during random times. You should be caring for combination style skin using a varied routine. You can moisturize frequently with the use of an oil based moisturizer when your skin is dry, and then when it takes on an oily texture you can switch to a gentle water based moisturizer. If your skin is showing signs of both of these types then you can choose a moisturizer that is specifically intended to handle combination style skin.
- Sensitive Skin:
Sensitive skin is capable of being sensitive to different chemicals, cleansers and elements so the best approach to caring for and moisturizing sensitive skin is to use a gentle product. Choose a face moisturizer that is hypoallergenic and fragrance free and use it as needed.

Basics of Skin Care:
With modern skin care being more complicated than medical science it can be hard to know exactly which products to buy, which techniques to use, and which advice to follow.
Wouldn’t it be nice to have clean and healthy looking skin without having to dump on a pound and a half of makeup every day? Imagine the freedom (as well as the extra cash in your wallet).
With modern skin care being more complicated than medical science it can be hard to know exactly which products to buy, which techniques to use, and which advice to follow. Every company and “expert” has something different to say about the same topic and it leads to nothing but confusion.
Before you tear your hair out in frustration, following the seven tips below can make caring for your skin much less time consuming and much less stressful.
1. Do not smoke.
Aside from slowly killing yourself it’s also incredibly bad for your skin. Smoking impedes blood flow and, considering that your skin is your bodies largest organ and needs a ton of blood flow, smoking can be the worst thing you’ll ever do for your skin. So, for your skins sake, put that cigarette down.
2. Wear sunscreen.
The sun dries things out and your skin is no exception. As resilient as your skin is you still need to protect it from the big flaming ball in the sky. SPF 15 or 20 should be more than sufficient for most situations, and don’t forget to re-apply!
3. Feed yourself.
Eating well is one of the best ways to maintain healthy skin. Stay hydrated (hint: water works best for this) and eat healthy, nutritious meals. Fatty, greasy foods will only pass those attributes on to your skin in some form or another. If you exist on McDonald’s, don’t be surprised if you have oily skin and acne problems.
4. Wash yourself every day.
I’m sorry, but it is not okay to shower once every few days- guys, this applies to you too! Dirty stuff collects on your skin during the day and while you are asleep. Just think of it for a moment- all the pollution, dirt, dust, grime, sweat… it all just sits there until you take a shower and remove it. Make sure that you wash yourself with a decent soap that doesn’t dry your skin out. You don’t need to scrub until your skin is raw, but make sure that you cover all of the important areas.
5. Get lots of sleep.
Sleeping well will better your overall health, but it also affects your skin specifically. This gives your skin time to rehydrate and “freshen up”.
6. Wear sunglasses when it’s sunny.
Why have the perma-squint lines on your face if you don’t have to? When you are reading leave a light on so that you don’t have to squint to see; when you’re out in the sun wear sunglasses. Along with being less straining on your eyes it has a added benefit of reducing wrinkles (and that makes you look younger).
7. And lastly, quit slathering yourself with a ton of moisturizer.
Yes, moisturizing is a good thing and you should do it, but that doesn’t mean that your body needs to be covered in a thin layer of moisturizer 24 hours a day. Make sure that you are using a good quality moisturizer that is alcohol free. You only need to moisturize once a day, so investing in a decent one shouldn’t set you back too much.
A few weeks of practicing better skin care should be enough to show you great results! So now, armed with your new skin knowledge, go and look healthier and younger

Skin Care Tips:
Taking good care of your skin can help it stay healthy and looking its best all year long. Dry, winter weather and bright, sunny summers can damage your skin if you don’t take care of it. But, some simple tips can help you prevent damage to your skin.
- Treating dry winter skin
- Preventing sun-damaged skin
- Treating sunburns
Treating Dry Winter Skin:
In addition to bitter wind chills and seemingly endless shoveling, dry, itchy, flaky skin seems to be a curse of winter. However, the winter weather isn’t the culprit. Dry skin is a result of the hot, dry inside air. Hot showers and hand washing also remove the natural oil from our skin, so there is nothing to hold the moisture in the skin. It is the loss of water from the skin, evaporating into the dry air, which makes the skin feel dry.
But relief is just a bottle of lotion away. During the winter months, it is especially important to make sure the skin is well moisturized. You should pat yourself dry after a bath or shower, and apply a moisturizing lotion within three minutes to lock in the moisture from the shower or bath. Most people can use any kind of moisturizing lotion as long as they like how it feels.
You should also apply a moisturizing lotion to exposed skin and a moisturizing lip balm to your lips before going outside, especially on windy days.
- Some other things to keep in mind:
* Look for effective ingredients in lotions such as urea or alpha hydroxy acids that help your skin absorb and retain moisture.
* You may have to apply lotion two to three times per day.
* Look for lotions with sunscreen—SPF 30 or higher—especially if you’re outside or driving in the sun for any length of time. Snow and ice reflect a lot of the ultraviolet rays that can damage your skin.
* For your face, use a water-based lotion. They are lighter and less likely to plug pores that can lead to acne.
- Preventing Sun-Damaged Skin:
Protecting your skin from the sun is important to keep your skin looking younger and healthier. When you are out in the sun for long periods of time, it’s helpful to wear a hat with a three inch brim, long sleeve shirts and long pants to protect your skin. It’s also important to get the right sunscreen and apply it correctly.
Sunscreens are designed to protect the skin from invisible ultraviolet (UV) light. UV light includes both UVA and UVB rays. UVB primarily causes skin cancer, while the longer-range UVA rays produce the wrinkling and aging of the skin, and also tend to intensify the cancer-producing aspects of the UVB. The goal of sunscreens is to prevent burning of the skin and premature aging, wrinkling and skin cancer.
Here are some tips to make sure your sunscreen will give you the best protection.
- Buying sunscreen:
1. The sun protective factor (SPF) is a number that indicates the degree of protection that a sunscreen provides. All sunscreens will carry an SPF number on their label. The higher the number, the more the protection.
2. Expensive products are not necessarily better, so ask your doctor or pharmacist about specific brands.
3. Always buy a product with SPF 30 or higher, as well as UVA, UVB and broad spectrum protection.
4. Waterproof sunscreen protects you from the sun for up to 80 minutes in water, while water-resistant sunscreen protects you from the sun for only 40 minutes.
5. If you have sensitive skin, use a product that says hypoallergenic on the label.
6. If you are acne prone, look for a product that is noncomedogenic.
- Applying sunscreen:
In order to get the maximum benefit from sunscreen, make sure you apply it correctly:
1. Sunscreen should be applied to dry skin, at least 30 minutes before going outdoors.
2. Reapply sunscreen every two hours, in addition to immediately after swimming, toweling off, sweating or strenuous exercise.
3. ‘Test’ a small dab first on the back of your hand to see if you are allergic to the product. If you develop a rash or itching, stop using it. Call your doctor or pharmacist about using a different product.
4. Apply a thick, even layer over all exposed skin, but do not rub into skin. Don’t forget the neck, ears, scalp, face and lips. Avoid eyes and eyelids.
5. Use at least one ounce to cover your entire body or approximately a quarter-sized amount for each body area.
6. If you have leftover or expired sunscreen at the end of summer, you may be applying too little.
Treating Sunburns:
Minor sunburns turn the skin pink or red. Symptoms do not begin until two to four hours after exposure. Prolonged exposure to the sun can cause blistering, which indicates a second-degree burn. Follow these guidelines to ease the discomfort of sunburn:
* Minimize pain by taking cool baths or putting cold wet cloths on the burned area several times a day. Showers may be too painful.
* Drink extra water to replace fluid loss and to prevent dehydration and dizziness.
* Aspirin or ibuprofen can reduce swelling and discomfort.
* Apply over-the-counter one percent hydrocortisone cream to reduce swelling and pain. Do not use creams or sprays for burns that contain benzocaine. It can cause an allergic rash.
* Apply an antibiotic ointment to any open blisters

Basic Skin Care Tips:
- Always wear a moisturized sunscreen when outdoors, winter and summer. The sun's rays can burn you even if the air feels cool, and sunlight reflected off water or snow can be particularly powerful.
- No matter what your skin type is, use a protective sunscreen when you are in the sun; don't expose your skin for more than 15 minutes. Don't forget to use sunscreen on your face and the back of your hands because these are constantly exposed to the sun's rays.
- Always remove your makeup before going to bed.
- If you usually wear makeup, give your skin a chance to breathe one day a week by going without.
- If your face tends to be puffy in the mornings, keep skin freshener, astringent, and cotton pads for your eyelids in the refrigerator for a quick pick-me-up.
- Rub moisturizing lotion on your legs before applying shaving cream for a smoother, softer finish when removing leg hair. Men who have normal to dry skin can also benefit from this technique.
- Use a humidifier to lessen the drying effects of indoor heat on your skin in the winter.
- Take baths in the evening to avoid exposing your skin immediately to outdoor air.

How To Get rid From A Pimple??
One of the pluses of aging:
Getting fewer breakouts. But while you may enjoy more clear-skin days as you get older, you'll still have the occasional breakout to contend with. Happily, there are steps you can take to make these once-in-a-while blemishes easier to live with. The key is to assess your sudden bump, and take action according to its type. Here's how. (Caution: These fixes are not for the faint of heart!
If the pimple is a simple blackhead:
Begin by cleansing your face. Then apply a clay-based mask to the pimple and its surrounding area. Clay actually draws impurities out of the skin -- in this case, the plug of oil and dead skin cells that created the blackhead in the first place. Allow the mask to sit for its required time, then rinse off. Now apply a pore-cleansing strip (found in drugstores) to the pimple. Your skin should be wet so the strip sticks properly. Allow the strip to dry, and quickly peel it off. With it should come your blackhead. Ice the area for a few minutes to minimize swelling, then follow with your regular makeup routine.
If the pimple is a pustule (in other words, has come to a pus-filled head):
To begin, soak a washcloth with hot water. The hotter you can stand it, the better its effect will be. Apply this hot washcloth to the pimple; don't press too hard, but rather hold the washcloth against the pimple. The heat will serve to draw the pus inside the pimple upward, making it easier to remove. After you've applied heat for several minutes, gently dry the area. Now wrap each index finger in a clean tissue. Using gentle pressure, lightly squeeze the pimple. Beware: There's a fine line between squeezing gently enough to remove the pus, and hard enough to draw blood (which can lead to scarring). If nothing comes out of the pimple after gentle prodding, leave it alone; you can try the same routine later.
If the pimple is a big, red, itchy, or sore bump:
You have two options: You can either see a dermatologist for an emergency zapping, or you can simply cover the pimple.
The first option is the more radical. A dermatologist can inject a cortisone solution into this type of pimple, instantly shrinking it. If this isn't practical, you can try option two:
Covering it with makeup. Begin with a concealer that matches your skin exactly; avoid coverup that's lighter than your skin, as it'll highlight rather than camouflage your zit. Use your finger to dab a tiny bit of concealer on the pimple. Now blend the concealer out with a concealer brush. When the pimple is sufficiently covered, top with a dusting of loose powder to help the coverup stay in place. Important: Be sure to wash off the concealer before bed -- skipping this step can actually make the pimple worse!

- Aloe Vera possesses incredible moisturizing properties. Studies show that Aloe Vera improves the skin's ability to hydrate itself, aids in the removal of dead skin cells and has an effective penetrating ability that helps transport healthy substances through the skin.
