Artichoke Benefits:-
Introduction:-
Artichoke traditionally used as food and as a medicinal herb for its diuretic and digestive properties. Artichoke leaves are used by many in relation to gastro-intestinal complaints due to bile deficiency (in the liver and gallbladder), and stimulating appetite and diuresis. The results of several clinical studies suggest that artichoke extracts useful when used in connection with liver and biliary dysfunction and digestive complaints, such as the feeling of fullness, loss of appetite, nausea and abdominal pain. Some researchers have even suggested that the dry artichoke extract can safely be recommended to patients with hyperlipoproteinemia and possible prevention of vascular disease. Artichoke has also strong antioxidant activity.
Proposed health benefits of artichokes:-
- High Cholesterol: Lowers LDL or bad cholesterol and raise HDL or good cholesterol. Artichoke leaf has been shown to lower cholesterol. One study showed a decrease of 18.5 total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol by 23. It had really gained widespread use in 1950 and 60 years before the advent of statin drugs. We intend to interfere with cholesterol synthesis. A substance that contains Luteolin may play a role in the cholesterol-lowering abilities.
- Reduces triglycerides, total serum cholesterol
- Has diuretic properties - useful kidney disease
- Increases bile flow and lover function - used in connection with cirrhosis
- Helps abdominal pain, heartburn, bloating
- Relieves constipation, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting
Dosage:-
The German Commission E recommends 6 g of dried herb or the equivalent per day, usually divided into 3 doses.
Precautions:-
Artichoke leaf seems very safe. Yet individuals with gallbladder disease should use artichoke only under medical supervision. Safety in pregnant and lactating women is unknown. People with an allergy to artichoke or members of the chrysanthemum family should avoid.
