Ashwagandha Benefits

Ashwagandha Benefits:-

Introduction:-
Ashwagandha, one of the most vital herbs in Ayurvedic healing, used since antiquity for a wide range of circumstances, but is best known for its healing benefits. Ashwagandha in Sanskrit means "the smell of a horse", which indicates that the herb gives the power and strength of a stallion, and is traditionally prescribed to help people strengthen their immune system after an illness. In fact, it is often referred to as "Indian ginseng" because of its rejuvenating properties (though botanically, ginseng and ashwagandha are connected). ashwagandha is also used to increase sexual potency for both men and women.

Color & Shape:-
Belonging to the same family as the tomato, ashwagandha (Withania somnifera or in Latin) is a shrub with plump oval leaves and yellow flowers. It bears red fruit about the size of a raisin.
Found Origions: --
The herb is native to the arid regions of India, North Africa and the Middle East, but today is grown in a more mild climate, even in the United States.

Scientific Research:-
Ashwagandha contains many useful medicinal chemicals, including withanolides, (steroidal lactones), alkaloids, choline, fatty acids, amino acids, and a variety of sugars. While the leaves and fruit have valuable therapeutic properties, the roots of the ashwagandha plant is the part most used in western herbal medicines.

Medical researchers have studied with great interest and ashwagandha as of this date have conducted 216 studies of its healing benefits, summarized below:

  • Gives immune protection
  • Fight the effects of stress
  • Improves learning, memory, and reaction
  • Reduces depression and anxiety without drowsiness
  • Stabilizes blood sugar
  • Lowers cholesterol
  • Reduces brain cell degeneration
  • Contains anti-malarial properties
  • Provides anti-inflammatory benefits

Some studies have also found that ashwagandha inhibits the growth of cancer cells in small animals, but further research is needed to determine whether the herb prevents the growth of tumors in humans.

Practical applications and precautions:-
The usual recommended dose is 600 to 1000 mg, twice daily. For people suffering from insomnia and anxiety, with a cup of warm milk, one teaspoon ground that ashwagandha contains at bedtime is beneficial. In very high doses, ashwagandha has been reported to induce abortion in animals. Although no comparable studies have been conducted on humans, women should avoid the herb during pregnancy.
